Updated: Dec 4, 2019

Well in the previous blogs I have described how amazing it was travelling all the way from Udaipur, India to Prince George, Canada for pursuing my higher studies at College of New Caledonia. In Prince George there are various natural beauties, places and sightseeing options available exploring which one does not feel bored or homesick. Out of these mesmerizing places the top three which I feel are the most closest to my heart are:-

1. Guru Gobind Singh Temple Association:-

Gurudwara on Diwali Night

Yes, you are correct it's a Gurudwara - a Sikh holy temple that's situated near Spruceland, Prince George. The place where I visited the very first when I landed in the city. The best part is its present right in front of my residence. Whenever oneself is feeling a bit low or probably missing one's family that's the best place to visit to relax and rejuvenate. They even had a small celebration on the day of Diwali (Indian festival of light, crackers, and sweets) attending it we felt extremely happy because after coming from India that was the place where we burst some crackers and after the prayers there was Langar (free food organized by the community) that was served in which we had enjoyed various Indian delicacies be it savory or sweet items. Also, there were people from various communities and origins who came together to celebrate the occasion. Furthermore, please note that there is no admission fees as such to the Gurudwara. But just a small recommendation when entering the main building do remember to cover your head and remove your footwear at the designated place.

2. lheidli t'enneh memorial park:-

A beautiful and lively park situated at the banks of Fraser River right at the heart of the city. It proves to be a great place to relax oneself. The park is consisting of an amusement park, museum, garden, and a playground and the best part pets are not allowed in this park so if there's anyone who feels afraid of pets can also easily enjoy in this park. You can even go there for a morning or evening stroll and also for a jog. Not even that it proves to be a great place when it comes up to be a socializing place as you can meet new people and make friends as well. Learning about new cultures and traditions. I do remember that the first time when I went there with my friends so we had a word with a local gentleman who told us that the park was earlier known as Fort George Park and was renamed in 2015 as the park had once been a village for the Lheidli T'enneh. This place is a must to visit as if in case there's a person who likes to see flowing water then they can sit next to the river and if in case they want to just sit and relax watching the park then even that option is also available. In a nutshell, a person can visit this park if they want to enjoy some time alone or with family and friends. Furthermore, please note that there is no admission fees as such to the Park.

3. Ancient Forest:-

The Ancient Forest is a unique rainforest present on the outskirts of the city roughly 113 KM. It offers a beautiful trail which is always cherished by the nature enthusiasts and nature lovers. It has a beautifully curated hiking trail which was interestingly made by the locals of the city as a charity act using the wood of the broken and dead trees in the forest. Also, you can encounter a lot of big and wide variety of trees and even different types of habitats in the region. Various photography enthusiasts also visit the place to click wildlife photography whereas some just travel to get their pictures clicked. In the forest, you can also see a small waterfall and a place known as a big tree. Where you can find old Cedar trees which are

having extremely broad and big trunks. Furthermore, please note that there is no admission fees as such to the Forest. But just a small recommendation when visiting the forest do carry some eatables and water as there are no shops or vending machine for the same.

Summary: -

Just to summarize in the end would like to say that the places which I’ve mentioned above in the blog are in the close reach of any resident of Prince George it’s just the ancient forest that’s bit far away from the city. Also talking about the Gurudwara it’s a multicultural place where person of any religion can visit as there is no restrictions with regards to that and can get a spiritual upbringing and motivation. And the park is the best spot for the person who want to maintain a healthy life.
